Terms of Service

Please read this before you beginThese terms govern your use of Little Buddha. Your journal is yours; our job is to keep it safe. Sections 4 (wellness disclaimer) and 6 (subscriptions and refunds) are the two most likely to matter to you, so we have not buried them.

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By downloading, installing, opening, or using Little Buddha (the “Application”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you are accepting on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind it.

If you use the Application on an Apple device, your use is additionally governed by Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which we incorporate by reference. If the Apple EULA and these terms conflict regarding your use of the Application on an Apple device, the Apple EULA controls.

If you do not agree to these terms, do not download or use the Application. You can delete your account and all of your data at any time through the Account & Data Deletion portal.

2. Eligibility & Minimum Age

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use a paid feature. The Application is not directed to children under 13. By using it you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that using the Application does not violate any law that applies to you. If you are between 13 and 16, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.

3. Licence Grant & Ownership of Your Reflections

You own your words. All journal entries, whispers, photographs, intentions, sky check-ins, and personal reflections you create within Little Buddha remain entirely yours. We claim no ownership and no commercial licence over the personal narratives you author or the images you upload.

Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, limited licence to install and use the Application on devices you own or control, for your own personal and non-commercial use, exactly as Apple’s and Google’s respective store terms permit.

Our own materials — the name “Little Buddha”, the app icon, illustrations, animations, sounds, software code, and design system — remain our property (or that of our licensors) and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited licence to use these only as embodied in the Application.

4. Wellness Disclaimer (Not Medical or Mental Health Advice)

Important health noticeLittle Buddha is a reflective wellness and habit companion. It is not a medical device, a diagnostic tool, a therapy service, a crisis line, or a substitute for professional care. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, disorder, or condition, and it must never be used as such.

The emotional weather, journal prompts, and growth metaphors in Little Buddha are reflective in nature. They do not represent a clinical assessment, and the “moods” you select are yours, not ours to interpret.

If you or your partner are experiencing acute distress, suicidal thoughts, a mental health crisis, or harm to yourself or anyone else, please contact your local emergency number, a crisis hotline, or a qualified healthcare professional immediately. In the U.S. you can call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). In India you can call iCall at 9152987821 or Vandrevala Foundation at 1860-2662-345. Locally, please look up emergency services in your area.

5. Your Conduct & the Shared Partner Space

Little Buddha enables two people to link accounts using a unique invite code so that a Sky, a Garden, and a calendar can be shared. You are responsible for the content you post in that shared space and you agree to use it with respect and with the other person’s consent.

You agree not to: upload unlawful, hateful, violent, sexually explicit, or infringing material; harass or impersonate anyone; attempt to access another person’s data or bypass our security; scrape, resell, or redistribute the Application; reverse engineer the Application except where that restriction is prohibited by applicable law; or use the Application to store or distribute malware.

You may disconnect from a linked partner at any time from within the App. Unlinking immediately removes the other person’s access to your live sky updates and shared entries. Unlinking does not retroactively erase content either person has already seen, which is why we ask that partners use the shared space consensually.

6. Subscriptions, In-App Purchases & Refunds

Little Buddha offers optional premium subscriptions. The Application also contains no advertising, and we will never ask you to pay to remove ads because there are none.

  • Payment is handled by the store. All transactions are processed by Apple or Google. We receive confirmation of the transaction and never see or store your full card or bank details.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as displayed at checkout) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • Managing and cancelling. You can change, pause, or cancel your subscription in your device’s store settings (Apple: Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions; Google: Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you retain access until then.
  • Refunds. Because purchases are handled by Apple and Google, they are subject to their refund policies and must be requested through them. On iOS, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, use the in-app refund flow or contact Google Play support. If a purchase was made and you were not charged, or was charged in error, contact us at hello@littlebuddha.app and we will make it right.
  • Price changes. We may change subscription prices. If we do, the new price applies from your next renewal, and we will notify you in advance through the store.
  • Downgrade and trial. If you downgrade or let a free trial lapse, your premium features end at the close of the current period. We do not pro-rate partial refunds for downgrades.

7. Our Content, Feedback & Community

If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Application, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use that feedback without restriction or compensation, so that we can improve Little Buddha. This licence does not apply to your private journal content, which we never use for any purpose beyond providing the service to you.

8. Third-Party Services & Links

The Application may link to third-party websites or services (for example, store pages, or a crisis helpline). We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, availability, or practices. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

As providedEXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH IN THIS AGREEMENT, AND TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Application will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that your content will never be lost. We do not warrant that the Application will be available in every country, or that it will meet your specific requirements. The “growth” in the Garden is a reflection of your own input, not a promise of any biological, psychological, or emotional outcome.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE, OUR AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, OR CONTRACTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR EMOTIONAL WELLBEING, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE APPLICATION OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Application or these terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Application in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 50.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any rights you have under the consumer law of your jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, you retain the benefit of any mandatory statutory protections.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Little Buddha and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any third-party claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Application, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of any third-party right — provided we notify you promptly and you allow us to control the defence of the claim.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Application and delete your account at any time through the Account & Data Deletion portal. We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms — for example, by attacking the service, abusing other people, or using the Application unlawfully. Where the breach is minor or unintentional, we will normally warn you and give you an opportunity to fix it first.

On termination, your licence to use the Application ends. Your data will be deleted in accordance with the Privacy Policy. If you subscribed, cancellation of your subscription is handled separately through the store as described in Section 6.

13. Changes to the Service or These Terms

We may update the Application, and we may revise these terms. The “Last revised” date at the top reflects the current version. If a change is material, we will provide you notice in the App, by email, or through a store update prompt before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Application after the effective date means you accept the revised terms. If you disagree, you can delete your account and we will delete your data.

14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any formal proceeding, you agree to contact us first and give us a reasonable opportunity (30 days) to resolve the issue informally by email.

If a dispute is not resolved informally, it shall be settled by binding arbitration administered under the rules of a mutually agreed arbitration institution, with the hearing conducted in English. Each party bears its own legal costs. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property or confidential information, or from bringing a claim that cannot lawfully be arbitrated under your local consumer law.

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of the terms will remain in full force.

15. General

  • Entire agreement — these terms, the Privacy Policy, and any store terms form the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Application.
  • No waiver — a failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Assignment — we may assign these terms as part of a merger or sale of assets, with notice to you; you may not assign them without our consent.
  • Force majeure — we are not liable for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.
  • Severance — if a provision is unenforceable, the remainder survives.
  • Notices — we may send notices to the email address on your account or through an in-app notice.
